The Day in Review
It's been quite the Friday night. Here is the recap of the day's stories:
Injury Watch
Injury Watch
- Josh Willingham, who has been mentioned in days in review numerous times, has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Marlins.
- According to reports, Yovani Gallardo has a torn ACL and is finished for the season. This is a huge disappointment to owners who had been waiting on him - hopefully you didn't have too much invested.
Notable Performances
- Nick Markakis was moved up to number two in the Orioles lineup and responded with a homer and a double.
- Matt Kemp had 4 RBI and a steal, while Rafael Furcal hit a 3-run HR and four RBI. Both Dodgers are very valuable so far this season.
- Manny Corpas gave up four runs in one third of an inning. He's coming dangerously close to being dropped in most formats.
- Tim Hudson threw a three-hit shutout. Wonderful pitching performance - Atlanta really needed that after the recent John Smoltz news.
That's plenty for tonight - that's what you need to know about the day.

1 Comments:
I guess Pete is never going to appreciate the Cubs as much as I do, but there was some news throughout the game. Soriano was denied the chance to be a hero after required nine at-bats before getting his first hit after returning from the DL, but making that hit count with a two-run homer to tie the game in the top of the ninth.
The Cubs may have been able to win, but the bullpen was spent after Rich Hill was pulled for walking four of the first six batters he faced. I don't trust ESPN's pitch locations, but the fact that a lot of those pitches were shown in the middle of the zone makes me think it was at least a small strike zone (hopefully I'll see footage sometime on ESPN today). Still, Pinella has warned Hill again that he's in danger of losing his spot in the rotation.
Hill was dropped in 10,000+leagues in Yahoo!, and if he's available in your league you should grab him. The lefty has been shaky, but has a lot of potential and will eventually hold a rotation spot even if he loses it for a week or two. The presence of Lieber and his success in long relief does shorten Hill's leash, but theirs just too much potential not to pick him up.
