The Day in Review

I've been dreading this moment. Watching terrible television while flipping to ESPN to check the bottom line, I saw too many solid statlines to anticipate the workload. But since we've been selling you short (particularly tough when what we are selling is, well, free...) I'll try to include the notables.

Injury News:
  • Pujols' injury looked bad leaving the batter's box, and I agree with Rotoworld that a cramp is an unrealistic diagnosis. Once the injury heals he should come back strong, but expect him to hit the DL for a period.
  • Tom Glavine strained his elbow and will probably find the DL. With the injuries in the rotation, the Braves will have to push for a starter soon if they want to contend.
  • Jake Peavy will return Thursday, Rafael Furcal won't be back until July. This week's Fantasy Roundtable Discussion will focus on the value of such injured stars and will be posted toward the end of the week.

Notable Performances
  • J.D. Drew is making the best of Big Papi's absence, hitting his fifth homerun in June. He's worth riding while hot and we expected him to yield positive returns from the end of drafts.
  • C.C. Sabathia has almost caught up to Beckett in ERA, tossing a complete game shutout. He was a great buy-low candidate, so hopefully you got him while the getting was good.
  • I was salivating over McGowan's matchup today, and he delivered with a complete game, one-run win with seven strikeouts. He'll have more value than all but Halladay in that rotation through the rest of the season, but I haven't lost faith in the real ace as some experts had.
  • Soriano stole a base, a category he is 4-5 in over the past ten games. With ninety-seven games left, he could still reach thirty steals. Geovany Soto hit his eleventh homerun in the game.
  • I saw that the Angels had increased their lead to 6-0, and thought "I hope Guerrero hit a two-run homer. Well, he did, and has already begun his rebound since our article.
  • Ryan Doumit hit two homeruns and two doubles. He's going to be a third or fourth tier catcher going into next season's drafts.
  • Berkman drove in five, hitting his nineteenth homer in the process. Oswalt was truly the star of the game, striking out ten in seven innings of one-run ball.

Hopefully I didn't miss anything, but it's very possible more will happen as the night goes on. For now, that's what you need to know about the day.
