The Day in Review
Well, I'm a bit sour about the Cubs loss, but at least Fresno State provided an interesting backdrop to the bottom line.
Notable Performances:
Injury News:
- Kaz Matsui is going back to the DL. It's amazing how many second basemen have provided little value while the group as a whole is coming into fantasy relevance. Injuries are really taking their toll, but if you were playing Kaz, you will probably never get around to moving him out of your starting lineup.
- Josh Hamilton has a bad rap when it comes to injuries, and I have a bad feeling that the knee inflammation leading to his mid-game departure could keep him out longer than expected. For now, that expectation is only a day or two.
- I want to apologize for the poor play of Justin Masterson and Darrell Rasner, a duo of AL East favorites who took dives after being featured as spot starters. At least Kevin Slowey (so far 7 K's in 5 innings, no runs, two hits) and Jonathon Sanchez (8 K's in 6.2, with the win) returned great value, while Jon Garland did reasonably well.
- Ryan Doumit came a triple short of hitting for the cycle, absolutely killing the ball all season. As a side note, should we do mid-season position rankings?
- Sheffield launched a homerun on his first day back from the DL. I might actually play him in my Experts League, though I hate to part with David DeJesus.
- A.J. Burnett struck out seven over eight innings of one-run ball. I don't trust him yet, and if I owned him I'd probably move him since he's a bit overrated. This doesn't mean he won't turn his season around, but that its just not worth waiting around to see. Arroyo (1 IP, 10 ER) was historically abysmal.
- Zack Greinke followed up a great outing with another, striking out ten over six innings. He's a bit of a sell high candidate, but still one of my favorite players.
- Jamie Moyer already has 9 K's in 6.1 shutout innings. I can't wait to see how many people pick him up because of it, for that 3.82 ERA has got to inflate sooner or later.
That's what you need to know about the day.

I would appreciate some mid-season ranking updates.
well it's settled. I figured we will organize them as "second half" rankings and try to have every position up by the All Star break. It will be based on the tier system of "Fantasy Baseball Mechanics" as explained in some of our earliest posts before we joined MLBFrontOffice.
