The Day in Review

I'm delirious with excitement, as most hockey fans across this country should be. Even you, baseball aficionados, should've appreciated the quality of hockey that was played for hours on end.

Injury News
  • Although the injury will not require surgery, David Ortiz's strained tendon in his left wrist will keep him out of the lineup for at least 15 days. I shuffled my roster and moved Joey Votto to first - maybe look to pick up a disappointing (thusfar) Carlos Pena to fill in.
  • Ryan Zimmerman may not be a viable option at third the rest of the season, as he continues to rest his ailing shoulder. If he's playing through partial tears, he's not going to be able to be the force we expect of him.
  • In positive news, John Smoltz is back and pitching out of the Atlanta bullpen.

Notable Performances
  • Chase Utley continues to rake. He has homers in his last five and seven of eight, giving him a total of 21 on the season. Another MVP from Philadelphia? Way too early to say...
  • Casey Blake drove in seven for Cleveland. He may be worth considering if you're struggling to replace, say, Ryan Zimmerman at third.
  • Mark Teixeira hit another homer, part of a 2-for-4 night. He's finally starting to catch fire, and hopefully you've been able to weather his mediocrity in the early part of 2008.
  • A-Rod, Josh Hamilton, and Prince Fielder all hit round-trippers last night.

It's now June, and if you're playing in AL-only or NL-only leagues, it's time to consider who might switch teams and get rid of them before they start to lose value. Hope you enjoyed your night as much as I did.

That's what you need to know about the day.
