The Day in Review
Friday night - another week over. And the weather here has been ridiculous, I'm sure it hit a hundred degrees this afternoon. From the air-conditioned comfort of my mother's basement, here's a summary of the world of baseball.
Injury News
- This might be silly, it might be huge. Johan Santana was hit in the throwing shoulder trying to lay down a bunt and given anti-inflammatory drugs. We'll see if the Mets ace has to miss any time.
- Michael Young has a hairline fracture on his finger but is going to play through it. He's been solid but not stellar all year; watch closely for a performance drop if he does try to play through.
Notable Performances
- Hiroki Kuroda threw a three-hit shutout against the Cubs. Ha! It's hard to say he's spot-start worthy, because I wouldn't have started him against that lineup, but he is certainly talented and worth owning in my opinion.
- 3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB. I guess, this coming from Jay Bruce, is no longer notable.
- Scott Kazmir threw 8 innings, striking out six with 2 earned, against a tough Texas lineup. He looks like he's most of the way back, which is great news for Tampa.
- Nick Markakis went 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. This is notable in the context of his hitting .500 over the past week. The Orioles RF has some nice splits, with June-July-August being his best three months. Get him while you still can because he's a five-category performer.
That's what you need to know about the day.
