The Day in Review

I'm frustrated, and you know why. So I'm going to get straight to the point, as Pete usually does (I don't know why he's always frustrated, maybe he's a Pirates fan). I also have become aware of the fact I use way too many parenthesis, so I'll work on that for you.

Injury News:
  • Michael Cuddyer strained a tendon in his left hand and has found his way on to the disabled list. I might have gotten lucky preferring Jason Kubel over the injured outfielder.
  • Magglio Ordonez, who I thought wouldn't hit the DL, already has. Marcus Thames should see a boost in his value while the right fielder is out.
  • Juan Pierre left the game, and might hit the DL in synchrony with Andruw Jones returning. I'm rooting that they are both benched and the Dodgers trade for Juan Rivera from the Angels.

Notable Performances:
  • Troy Tulowitzki belted only his second homer of the year, but hopefully it will signal a return to form.
  • Brandon Phillips (3 for 5) stole two bases while Edwin Encarnacion hit his fifteenth homer of the year. Both have been quiet as far as articles go and could represent buy low opportunities. Also in the game, Grady Sizemore homered and stole a bag, bringing him to nineteen total in each category. Unless you have him pegged for a 40-40 season, he's a bit of a sell high.
  • A.J. Burnett, the fantasy roller coaster ride, struck out eleven in seven scoreless innings. It's his second great start in a row, but over the past 20 innings, he's still given up nine runs.
  • Kevin Slowey, pretty much my only good pick as a spot starter, pitched a complete game shutout, striking out eight without issuing a walk. That last part is probably the most important, since control is crucial given his homer tendencies.
  • Rangers first basemen Chris Davis already has two homers in three starts since coming up from the minors. I like him to provide above average production in deeper leagues.
  • John Lackey, 8.2 innings. He got into trouble in the ninth, but the Angels won 1-0 while Lackey's ERA has dropped to 1.44.

That's what you need to know about the day.
